What type of oil do I use in my 2004 Honda Reflex 250cc scooter? R 2007 manual says no energy conserving oil?
We have a 2007 manual and it says don’t use energy conserving oil but doesn’t tell which type….it’s also not the proper year. Any help?

Everyone has told you not to use API with the Energy conserving symbol because it has friction modifiers which will cause slippage on motorcycles that have wet clutches. If you want oil without these anti friction modifiers then just look for oil that specifically states it is for motorcycles such as "Valvoline 4 stroke Motorcycle Oil" because they do not contain these friction modifiers. You can find this oil at AutoZone, PepBoys, even Walmart. What is real strange is that your bike has a CVT with a dry clutch and I would think that standard Automotive oil would be fine, even preferred.
Energy conserving oil is 5w30 or 10w30 oil with "friction modifiers" that may cause your wet clutch to slip. Just about any other motor oil will do. use 10w40 or 15w40 rotella, or any synthetic with a higher viscosity rating than 10w30.
Buster Brown is correct, but if you want to double check look on the back of the oil bottle.
There is a circle with the API rating (ie: 10w40) in it. Also there will be a service rating like, "SH", for instance. If in that same circle you see the words, "energy conserving" DO NOT use it.
