I own a 50cc Honda Metropolitan scooter. Last weekend I thought it would be fun to ride with two people despite it having a seat made for only one, so I took it on a back-road and pushed myself to the very front of the seat so my g/f could ride in back (we’re both petite and our combined weight is about 280lbs.).
Amazingly…the scooter still managed about 35mph with us both…only 2mph slower than the 37mph I can go on it with just myself riding…despite substantially slower acceleration and worse braking ability (I treated it as if I was riding in rain). I was also light on the engine during acceleration b/c I didn’t want to risk the engine’s over-heating.

My real question is….can a police man actually pull me just over for taking a second person on such a small scooter…and/or are there any other issues I should be aware of?
I have been told that i don’t need a special license but then i read online that it’s only under 50cc? and yes i already have my regular drivers license
Anyone know the facts, please serious responses only, i have already done my web research and i don’t want links to useless sites…. Thanx
hey
i got a 2001 honda elite scooter, its 50cc and it only goes up to about 25 mph, no matter the weight. Whether its only me or me and my brother on it its the same speed, and i was told its the speed restrictor
does anyone know how to take it out?
I have a 1990 50cc Honda scooter which runs very well … except there is some sort of electrical problem.
Symptoms:
The headlight doesn't work, neither do the turn signals. The rear tail light and horn DO work.
The electric start will work for the first start of the day. After that the battery appears to be drained and can't start it.
Any help you could give would be appreciated. Thoughts on what the cause might be? How do you suggest that I start with trying to fix this problem? Thank you!
