I get my Honda keys cut by the nearest Honda dealer by using the numbers stamped into the cylinder.
AT $1.50 PER KEY.
Locksmiths in my area charge a fortune, and don’t have blanks suitable for motorcycles.
True, the last one was about two years ago, but inflation aint THAT much.
You may have to go to the dealer where you purchased it and they can get a key made. If that doesn’t work you might have to call a locksmith and have the lock re-keyed. Hope this helps
If you have ignition switch or seat switch that has number visible, many locksmiths can cut a key by code numbers. Sometimes the key switch cylinder numbers are under a chrome retaining ring so not visible on street for thieves to get number. I had a locksmith cut key by numbers for little Yamaha- his reference book had cutting machine setting by number- 1st key was $18.00, 2 copies after checking first key were only couple dollars. A few dealers retain a spare key when they sell a vehicle just in case owner loses key- or in some cases with cars locks it inside of running vehicle. (also in case repo man has to be sent out) . Check dealer if you bought it new - they may be able to give you same day service or oder from warehouse overnight .
curmudgeon has the right idea. i lost the keys to my Ninja 250 last year, and had to call in a locksmith. the manufacturer was no help, and the dealer said that they stopped keeping key information back in 2002, the only option was calling an expensive on-call locksmith.
he began by examining the helmet lock, but there was no way to remove it without unlocking it first. so in stead, he removed the gas cap and used the lock from it to figure out the first four tumblers, and guess-timated the last two for the ignition. he got it right with no problem.
cost : $110. ouch. i had him make four copies, to avoid the future cost
good luck, it’s going to be expensive.
there is a key code on every cylinder take off the compartment lock and take to a locksmith
If you’ve got the VIN your local dealer should be able to get one for you.
