Has anyone ever toured on a Honda Silverwing Scooter?
How far did you go?
Was the ride comfortable?
What did you use for storage?
Would you do it again?
I am thinking of riding from ND to Florida for vacation. I could never afford a Goldwing and was just wondering how the Silverwing would do. Thanx

Sure - the bike will be fine. Many are discovering the larger scooters are quite comfy and capable tourers.
You can add a top case (givi or jc whitney) to the rear of the bike to increase storage, or just strap on some water proof bags for your gear. Buy a cheap rainsuit, just in case.
Most importantly - have a great time!
I owned one for 3 years. It’ll go anywhere you want. There is a UCF professor who has led 2 round trips from Florida to Alaska on his Silverwing. He has nearly 100,000 miles on it. I have only taken two 800 miles round trip journeys on mine. No problems. The Goldwing guys have trouble keeping the pace with the Silverwing. I’ve had mine up to 115 mph. It gets a little squirrely at that speed. Strap a small duffle bag on the back seat for luggage and to lean on.
I dont have a silverwing but I have the Reflex. It is 350lbs and 240 some cc.’s. I have traveled mostly locally longest round trip about 40 miles. It is a comfortable ride and nice size. The seat stores alot but I have a small spider bungie for odd shape things I can strap to the seat. I dont think I would do any real distance on anything light, go for a touring vehicle.
I don’t have a Silverwing, but I do have a Honda Reflex, also.
I have an 80 mile round trip daily to work. The ride to work is a little highway and mostly back roads. The Reflex is a 250cc bike and handles highway speeds just fine, but nothing left at 80mph. The furthest I’ve ridden in one day is 600 miles to Lake Michigan, up the coast, and back home. The whole trip was very comfortable on the Reflex, and the Silverwing is even more capable of such trips.
I would say, go for it! Then you can tell us how great the S’wing is.
Ride Safe
Have a Nephew that has one, he went to South Carolina (Myrtle Beach) from Washington, D.C. I asked him the same thing as far as comfort. He told me that he absolutely enjoyed himself. He said that he was comfortable on it. I didn’t ask him how he stored his clothes. He is a daring young man, because he rode at night as well as during the day.
I just asked him and he said if you can afford the bike, and if you love riding, then go for it. As always, ride safely, and follow all Traffic laws.
Heres to happy hunting,
Good Luck
Another 250 Reflex owner here. My friend has a Silver wing and rides it on the freeway to work. It will cruse at 75+. The only drawback I see is that I get much better gas mileage on my 250 (66mpg) vs his (40-45mpg). You might be surprised how many people travel long distance with the Reflex. All you need is an aftermarket GIVI model 210 taller windshield (about $100), and if you are near 6′ tall like I am, an up and back 2 or 3" extension of the backrest. My wheelbase is almost the same as my friends soft tail Harley. I can cruise all day at a stable 70mph on my 250 if I want too. The only drawback is if you need to climb a steep hill, you will be limited to 55-60 mph on the 250. On both scoots you are sitting on an in-closed storage trunk, and again you can buy a bolt on locking hard case that mounts on the rack behind the seat from GIVI. There are 2 good Honda scooter groups at Yahoo Groups. One for the Silver wing and one for the Reflex. Lot’s of good information, tech tips, and pictures. Ride safe and enjoy.
